Earlier this month, I sent out a member notification for test results for Lead/Copper testing. In that memo I indicated that test results were positive for copper and negative for lead. However, Georgia EPD notified me last week that the information that I sent was erroneous and should have been positive for Lead and passing for Copper. I apologize for that mistake.
Our Lead/Copper tests resulted in two homes with 0 parts per billion, one home with 2.7 parts per billion, one home with 16 parts per billion and the final home with 20 parts per billion. When all five houses were averaged, our number was above the action level of 15 parts per billion measurement that is passing (although technically there are no acceptable levels of lead). Our retests drawn directly from the wells earlier this month only showed a trace measurement of 1 part per billion in one well and zero in the second one.
We feel that the water in the distribution system is safe to drink as we only have PVC piping in our system and the higher measurement in the two homes is a result of corrosion in the faucets or fixtures, and is confined to those two homes. Lead can be naturally occurring but our well test suggests that the wells are not a concern at this time. However, we will revisit those homes to see if we can identify the problem. I will be contacting those members to let them know that we will be revisiting their homes for retests.
Additionally, EPD is requiring regular testing and monitoring until they are satisfied that the testing results are consistently within their guidelines. Beginning this month, your monthly statement will show a reminder notification of those test results and contact information if you have questions.
I am attaching a copy of the required brochure for information about Lead in the water for your information and reference. This information is also available on our website; http://carterslakeestateshomes.com/jmain.php as well.
Our water is safe to drink and no changes are required. We will continue to monitor and test the water as required by EPD. If there are changes you will be notified immediately. Once again, I apologize for any confusion from these notifications. If you have any questions, please contact me at (770)-203-9313 or email me at gregherren9@gmail.com.
